Out With the Olde…In With the New!

It hard to imagine that this year is actually over.  So much has happened for me this year.  It started off kind of quietly, a wierd kind of summer, then with the release of Reason 6 and attending the Music weekend in Oct in Santa Cruz, meeting a fellow musician to collaborate with, a wealth of new ideas to explore, figuring out some things about modes and scales that has stump me for decades, and now getting ready for a big move north; nearer to my family’s original home since the early 1800′s.

I pause to reflect on other changes as well. The world has sure gotten crazier…everyone seems so aware of what is wrong.  It seems to me like there are very few though who know or believe that we have a power given us to change it.  We only have to believe we can.  Some changes take 10 years or more, like me returning to my roots or figuring out something about music that has escaped me.  Changing the world around us demands a bigger committment from us…a lifelong committment maybe…that we will never lose hope in one another.

I remember reading a quote somewhere, I think it was from Mathatma Ghandi or Dr Martin Luther King  Jr that went something like this, “There are no great people, only great causes.  What makes one appear great is when one identifies themself with them.”  So my hope for each of you this year is that you will immerse yourselves into something you can believe in…something that gives you that sense of empowerment to make this world better…that; ultimately,  is something worth believing in!

Great New Years message, and I really like that quote. You might be surprised at the correct attribution though… “There are no great men. Just great challenges which ordinary men, out of necessity, are forced by circumstance to meet.”

It’s interesting that words from a man of war, Admiral Bull Halsey, could be thought to have come from a man of peace… And then it came to mind that wars must sometimes be fought against the darkness, by men of peace.

Some good thoughts, Marc. I know my aspirations for the year are to do a few ‘great’ things, which allow me the opportunity to change and grow as a human being. I can think of no better task than this…to push if I must for a better world! As I said in my post, we don’t have to look far to see destructive forces around us…and there are so few of us who believe WE have a power given us to change it…most believe otherwise sadly and so the children of the world suffer. But for those who have been privileged to stand on the shoulders of giants and have seen the Promised Land that awaits us, know that we must have FAITH in the LIGHT that is in US ALL!
